March 17 marks the date Saint Patrick is said to have died, traditionally given as the year 461. ☘️ Ireland made it a public holiday in 1903, and the parades spread from there.
The day works like a green flood warning. It starts as a trickle of shamrocks in shop windows around the 1st and by the 17th the whole street is under it.
