What's this site?

Date Counter does one thing: it tells you how long until a date you care about.

Live countdownDays, hours, minutes and seconds, ticking away on your own clock.
The link is the countdownEvery countdown is just a URL. Save it, send it, bookmark it, done.
Free, no accountsNo sign-up and nothing to pay for. The embeds are free too.

How it works

1Pick a dateSpin the wheels, name it if you like, set an exact time if you need one.
2Make it yoursColors, themes, animation, fonts. Your choices travel inside the link.
3Share or embedSend the link to anyone. Their countdown adjusts to their own clock.
Picked a date that already happened? The counter flips around and shows how long ago it was instead. Anniversaries, sobriety milestones, "days since the last incident" jokes at the office.

Put a countdown on your own site

It's a plain iframe with no scripts to install. Copy the code from any countdown page, paste it in, and the timer runs there by itself.

Questions people ask

Which time zone does it use?

Yours. The countdown targets midnight at the start of your chosen day, on the clock of whoever is looking at it. Someone in Tokyo and someone in Chicago will each see the time left until their own local midnight. The one call we make for you is which date comes next on a holiday page. That rolls over on US Eastern Time, and the live counter re-checks it against your clock the moment the page loads.

Is it really free?

Yes, embeds included. If you want to say thanks, a link back is always appreciated, and the embed carries a small one by default.

Can I count down to a specific time, not just a date?

Yes. Tap "Set exact time" under the date wheels and pick an hour and minute. Leave it off and the countdown aims at midnight.

Why does it say one day less than I counted on my fingers?

The big number is the gap between today and the target on the calendar, so the target day itself isn't counted. On December 24 it says "1 day" because one date stands between you and the 25th, and the hours beside it show how long until that number ticks down.
